How to use the spacebar counter on mobile
- Pick a time (or type your own seconds) and tap the large pad. The first tap starts the clock and counts as press number one.
- Keep tapping the pad with one or two thumbs until the timer hits zero. Each touch is one press.
- Have a Bluetooth or USB keyboard connected? Press its Space key instead – physical key presses are counted exactly like on a computer.
- When time is up the result window opens and the pad locks until you press Restart. Turn on Do Not Disturb first so a notification cannot interrupt the run.

20-second spacebar test: what it measures
This 20-second spacebar counter is for players building stamina or preparing for the 30-second and 1-minute lists. It is long enough that hand comfort starts to matter.
At twenty seconds a smooth, repeatable motion beats a fast opening you cannot keep. The chart often shows who has been pacing and who has been sprinting.
How to get a better 20-second spacebar score
Support your forearm so the finger does the work and the shoulder stays relaxed. Take a slow breath before you start. Stop at once if you feel strain, and rest a full minute between attempts.
- Pace yourself: settle into a rhythm instead of spending everything in the first seconds.
- Keep your shoulder and forearm relaxed; tension is the usual cause of a mid-test dip.
- Use the same keyboard, finger and posture whenever you compare scores.
20-second spacebar score targets
How many times can you press the spacebar in 20 seconds? Use these practice targets as a guide to a pace you can hold for most of the run. They are reference points, not official grades or measured averages.
| Pace | Presses per second | Presses in 20 seconds |
|---|---|---|
| Warm-up | 4.5 | 90 |
| Comfortable | 6 | 120 |
| Fast | 8 | 160 |
| Very fast | 10 | 200 |
Your own chart is a better guide than any table. Aim to beat your personal best and to make the line flatter. The good spacebar speed guide explains how to read total, PPS and consistency together.
Reading your 20-second result
Check how many seconds ran within a couple of presses of your maximum. The more seconds near your peak, the better your stamina. If your consistency is under about 80%, aim for a steadier, slightly slower pace on the next run.
The result window shows your average, fastest and slowest second, consistency score and chart, and your personal best for this length is saved in your browser. The pad stays locked until you press Restart. Phone players can tap the pad; see the mobile guide.

What a 20-second spacebar score means in presses per second
Every spacebar speed test boils down to one formula: presses per second (PPS, sometimes called keys per second or KPS) equals your total presses divided by the test time. On a 20 seconds test that means every extra press adds 0.05 to your average PPS. Use the table to turn a goal into a target total before you start.
| Pace | Presses in 20 seconds | Reading |
|---|---|---|
| 4 presses per second | 80 | Relaxed (informal reference) |
| 5 presses per second | 100 | Steady (informal reference) |
| 6 presses per second | 120 | Comfortable (informal reference) |
| 7 presses per second | 140 | Brisk (informal reference) |
| 8 presses per second | 160 | Fast (informal reference) |
| 9 presses per second | 180 | Very fast (informal reference) |
| 10 presses per second | 200 | Elite pace (informal reference) |
Rhythm, pacing and tapping consistency
Somewhere past the first few seconds a spacebar click test stops being about speed alone and starts being about pacing. On a 20 seconds run your fastest second usually comes early and your slowest comes late, and the gap between them is exactly what the consistency score measures. A steadier chart often beats a spikier one with the same total, because a steady rhythm is a pace you can repeat.
Good practice here is interval work: run this 20-second test, rest for a minute, run it again, and compare the shape of the two charts rather than only the totals. Fatigue shows up as a slope, and tension in the hand shows up as a ragged line.
Keyboard, switches and input lag on a 20-second test
Your keyboard shapes the result. Membrane, scissor and mechanical switches have different actuation points (how far you press before the key registers) and different travel, and a keyboard’s polling rate decides how often it reports to the computer. None of that is a flaw in the counter: it measures what your browser receives. For fair comparisons, test the same keyboard, same browser and same 20-second setting, and read the accuracy guide for how timer precision and input lag fit in.
20-second spacebar counter FAQ
How many times can you press the spacebar in 20 seconds?
A comfortable pace gives about 120 presses and a fast pace about 160 or more. Your keyboard, technique and warm-up all change the number, so track your own best.
What is a good score on the 20-second spacebar test?
Beating your own personal best with a steady chart is a good score. As a rough target, 120 presses is comfortable and 160 is fast for 20 seconds.
How long should I rest between 20-second tests?
About a minute is enough for most people. If your pace drops on every run, take a longer break; fatigue lowers scores more than lack of practice.
Is my 20-second score saved?
Your best score and attempts are saved in this browser. To add a score to the Top 500, enter a player name in the result window.
How many presses per second is 120 presses in 20 seconds?
120 presses in 20 seconds is 6.0 presses per second (120 divided by 20). Use the same division for any total: presses divided by seconds gives your PPS.
What is the world record for the 20-second spacebar test?
There is no official, verified record for any spacebar test length, and numbers posted online are self-reported. The Top 500 leaderboard shows scores submitted by real players on this site, checked by automatic limits and moderators, but it is still a community ranking.
Is the 20-second spacebar counter the same as a spacebar clicker?
Yes. “Spacebar counter”, “spacebar clicker”, “space bar speed test” and “spacebar click test” all describe a tool that counts how many times you press the space bar in a set time. This page uses a 20 seconds timer.
Can you press the spacebar 100 times in 20 seconds?
100 presses in 20 seconds needs 5.0 presses per second for the whole run (100 divided by 20). It is a stretch goal for most people; work up to it with shorter tests first.
