The cookies and browser storage Spacebar Counter uses, why we use them and how you can change your choice. Last updated: October 22, 2026.
What are cookies and browser storage?
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (localStorage) works in a similar way but is not sent to the server with every request. We use both, and we describe each below.
Essential storage we always use
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| ssc_hist_v2 (localStorage) | Saves your recent results and personal bests on your device. | Until you clear site data |
| ssc_player_v1 (localStorage) | Remembers the player name you chose as a guest. | Until you clear site data |
| ssc_consent_v1 (localStorage) | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again. | Until you clear site data |
| Game progress keys (localStorage) | The clicker game saves your points and upgrades. | Until you clear site data |
| wordpress_logged_in_* (cookie) | Keeps you logged in after you sign in to a player account. Only set if you log in or join. | Up to 14 days |
Sign-in with Google
If you choose Continue with Google, your browser loads Google’s sign-in script from accounts.google.com. We load it only when you open the join or login window, not on every page. Google may set its own cookies when you use it, under the Google Privacy Policy. We receive only the name, email address and profile picture Google shares after you sign in.
Advertising cookies
This site is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies, such as the DoubleClick cookie, to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and to measure and limit ads. We load the advertising code only after you choose Accept all or Decline personalised ads in the cookie banner. If you decline, ads can still appear, but they are not personalised. Our ads appear in designated spaces away from interactive game areas.
How to change your choice
- Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page to see the banner again.
- Clear cookies and site data in your browser settings to remove everything stored on your device.
- Visit Google’s Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) to turn personalised ads off across Google, or aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu to opt out of interest-based ads from many providers.
- Use your browser’s private mode, or block third-party cookies, if you prefer.
Blocking essential storage may stop the counter from saving your personal best or keep you logged out.
