Use this untimed key chatter test to check whether a single, deliberate spacebar press appears as more than one count.

How to use the spacebar counter on mobile
- Pick a time (or type your own seconds) and tap the large pad. The first tap starts the clock and counts as press number one.
- Keep tapping the pad with one or two thumbs until the timer hits zero. Each touch is one press.
- Have a Bluetooth or USB keyboard connected? Press its Space key instead – physical key presses are counted exactly like on a computer.
- When time is up the result window opens and the pad locks until you press Restart. Turn on Do Not Disturb first so a notification cannot interrupt the run.
How to check a spacebar for chatter
- Keep the browser tab active and press the spacebar slowly, once at a time. Lift your finger fully between presses.
- Watch the total after every deliberate press. A normal press should add one count; a jump of two or more is a reason to test further.
- Repeat the same check in another app or browser. Then compare with a different keyboard or the on-screen pad.
- If extra counts follow one physical keyboard across apps, the switch may be worn or dirty. Follow the keyboard maker’s cleaning guidance or ask a repairer.
What this result can and cannot prove
This page shows the key events that the browser receives. It cannot tell whether a second event came from a worn switch, a keyboard firmware setting, a remapping program or another part of the computer. A comparison on a second device helps narrow down the cause. It is a basic check, not a certified hardware diagnosis.
Key chatter FAQ
What should one press add?
One deliberate spacebar press should normally increase the total by one. Release the key fully before pressing again.
Can software fix key chatter?
Some keyboards provide debounce or firmware settings, but software cannot repair a worn physical switch. Compare another keyboard before changing settings.
