15-second spacebar test: what it measures

The 15-second spacebar counter is a good training length: hard enough that you must pace yourself, short enough to repeat several times in one session.

Fifteen bars give a detailed picture. Most people show a quick start, a dip around seconds four to six, then a second wind. Seeing that shape tells you where to focus your practice.

How to get a better 15-second spacebar score

Practise the dip: when you feel the pace slip, relax your shoulder and forearm instead of pressing harder. Tension is the usual cause of the drop, and a looser hand often recovers the pace.

  • Pace yourself: settle into a rhythm instead of spending everything in the first seconds.
  • Keep your shoulder and forearm relaxed; tension is the usual cause of a mid-test dip.
  • Use the same keyboard, finger and posture whenever you compare scores.

15-second spacebar score targets

How many times can you press the spacebar in 15 seconds? Use these practice targets as a guide to a pace you can hold for most of the run. They are reference points, not official grades or measured averages.

Use your own chart to spot whether your pace stayed flat. Compare several attempts rather than chasing one high total, and work toward a result you can repeat.

Reading your 15-second result

The minimum PPS shows the slowest second, while consistency shows how much your pace varied. Try to improve both over a few weeks. Compare this result with the 10-second test to see how your burst changes over a longer run.

The result window shows your average, fastest and slowest second, consistency score and chart. Your personal best for this length is saved in your browser. The pad stays locked until you press Restart.

15-second spacebar counter FAQ

What is a useful target for the 15-second spacebar test?

Use 90 presses as a comfortable practice target for this duration, then compare it with your own median. It is a reference point, not an official grade.

What should I look for in the 15-second speed chart?

Compare the opening section with the final section. A flatter line suggests you held your pace, while a sudden dip may show a pause, a finger change or fatigue.

Why does my pace drop around the middle of the test?

That dip is common: the opening burst fades before a steady rhythm takes over. Relax your hand and use smaller strokes to flatten it.
